On April 18th after coming home from a Kiss the Radio program, four members
of the Super Junior group, Shindong, Leeteuk, Kyuhyun, Eunhyuk, and two managers were involved in a car accident when the driver of the vehicle believed that one of the tires was deflated and attempted to change lanes, but lost control of the car. The van ran into the guard rail/medium on the driver's side and skidded for
about 30M+. At some point, the momentum caused the van to flip over on its right
side.
Kyuhyun was sitting behind the driver's seat, therefore he was the most
injured out of all the members. He had a fractured hip, broken ribs, and facial
scratches/bruises. The fractured hip was bleeding and his broken ribs had come
down on his lungs. He was slipping in and out of consciousness, and couldn't
really speak because of the shock. Kyuhyun was discharged on July 5, 2007 after
78 days.
Shindong was the least injured out of the members, and managed to
leave the accident with just cuts and bruises on his face and body. Leeteuk
had an operation regarding glass shards that were in his back, the operation was
successful in removing them all. He also had a scratch near his eye and various
cuts and bruises. When they found out how serious his injuries were, they had a
plastic surgeon stitch him up. He got a total of 170 stitches on his face and
his back. They're trying to avoid leaving any scars, but Leeteuk might have to
have more surgeries later on to remove scars.
Eunhyuk was also reported with having glass shards in his back, and was said to have stitches.Regarding schedules, all activities involving these four members have been cancelled.
Police reports said that the driver blamed the accident on a flat
tire, but investigations showed that the tire was fine and in actuality the
driver had been speeding.
Both Leeteuk and Kyuhyun recovered quicker than the doctor initially expected. Leeteuk was discharged from the hospital on April 30th (3 PM, Korean time) but did not resume his schedule until after 33 days of recovery. Kyuhyun's family and friends were shocked to find out that he is recovering so quickly that his doctor even stated that he would not require any new operations for the time being.
